Playstation 1

The Sony PlayStation launched in Japan in 1994 and North America in 1995. It was a 32-bit console that used CDs instead of cartridges, allowing for bigger games with 3D graphics and full-motion video. Hit titles like Final Fantasy VII, Gran Turismo, and Metal Gear Solid made it hugely popular. The PS1 sold over 100 million units, making it the first console to reach that milestone and firmly establishing Sony as a major player in gaming.
